Speak Life

Speak Life Until You See Life

The Curse Stops Here – Breaking the Power of Negative Words

Speak Life

There was a season in my life when I had to make a declaration every single day:

"I will not speak in ways that give the devil power."

Some days I whispered it.

Other days I had to shout it over my own thoughts.

Because I had discovered something dangerous.

The more I focused on my circumstances, the more destructive my words became.

Instead of speaking hope...

I spoke defeat.

Instead of declaring God's promises...

I rehearsed my pain.

Instead of expecting breakthrough...

I accepted brokenness as my permanent reality.

I didn't realize it then, but my words were watering the very things I was praying would die.

Words bring life

When Your Reality Doesn't Match Your Dream

At twenty years old, I believed I was beginning the life I had always dreamed of.

I was married.

I had my beautiful baby boy.

I believed love would overcome every obstacle.

I admired my parents' marriage. They weren't perfect, but they loved God, loved one another, and faithfully built a home centered on Christ. I wanted that kind of marriage. I wanted that kind of family.

But my story unfolded differently.

Seven years later, I found myself a single mother raising three children.

The dream I fought so hard to preserve had fallen apart.

When you wake up every day looking at a situation that seems hopeless, it's easy to believe that this is simply the life you've been given.

That's exactly where the enemy wants us.

Because once we accept defeat in our hearts, we'll eventually begin speaking it with our mouths.

Broken heart

The Power of Agreement

Scripture teaches us that life and death are in the power of the tongue.

Our words matter.

Not because our words have power apart from God—

But because they reveal what our hearts truly believe.

There was a time when complaining became easier than praying.

Criticism became easier than gratitude.

Fear became louder than faith.

I still attended church.

I still sang in the choir.

I still served faithfully.

From the outside, everything looked spiritual.

But privately, my heart was exhausted.

My relationship with God had become shallow.

I knew about Him.

I loved Him.

But I wasn't truly depending on Him.

Instead of bringing my brokenness into His presence, I allowed shame, disappointment, and pride to convince me that complaining was my only option.

I couldn't have been more wrong.

CHURCH

The Day Truth Interrupted My Life

One Sunday morning, while sitting in church, the pastor made a statement I'll never forget.

"God doesn't bless a mess."

I honestly don't remember the Scripture he was preaching.

I don't remember the outline.

I only remember those words piercing my heart.

It felt as though God was speaking directly to me.

As I sat there, my entire life replayed before me.

The compromises.

The excuses.

The moments I chose temporary comfort instead of lasting obedience.

The times I medicated my pain instead of surrendering it to God.

I had become two different people.

One woman loved leading worship and serving in ministry.

The other desperately sought approval in unhealthy places, believing that acceptance from people would somehow fill the emptiness only God could heal.

That morning I realized something life-changing:

God wasn't asking for my performance.

He wanted my heart.

Not my gift.

Not my ministry.

Not my service.

Me.

Sometimes Deliverance Doesn't Look Like We Expected

I spent years praying the same prayer.

"Lord, change my husband."

"Teach him to love You."

"Restore our marriage."

Almost every prayer centered around someone else's transformation.

Very few centered around mine.

Then God answered.

Just not the way I expected.

After fifteen years of marriage and three beautiful children, I found myself divorced.

Broken.

Alone.

Heartbroken.

At first, it felt like my prayers had gone unanswered.

Looking back now, I realize they had been answered differently.

Because God knew something I couldn't yet see.

Before He restored my future...

He had to restore me.

Surrendered Worship

When God Became Enough

Those years of separation and healing became the foundation of my relationship with Christ.

The woman who once believed she couldn't survive without another person's love discovered the overwhelming, healing love of her Heavenly Father.

The closer I drew to Him, the quieter fear became.

His Word became my lifeline.

I carried Scriptures with me everywhere.

When anxiety tried to overwhelm me, I opened my Bible.

When shame whispered lies, I answered with truth.

When loneliness felt unbearable, worship reminded me I was never alone.

Verses like Psalm 23, Psalm 37, Psalm 70, and Jeremiah 29 became more than familiar passages.

They became anchors for my soul.

Little by little...

God healed places inside me I thought would remain broken forever.

Speak Life...Even Before You Feel It

One of the greatest lessons God taught me is this:

You don't wait until life looks better to speak life.

You speak life while everything still looks impossible.

You declare God's promises before you see the evidence.

You praise Him while you're still waiting.

You worship Him while you're still hurting.

You trust Him while you're still healing.

Because faith isn't pretending pain doesn't exist.

Faith is believing God's promises are greater than your present circumstances.

Today, when discouragement tries to return, I still speak His Word.

Not because I always feel strong...

But because I know His truth never changes.

The Curse Stops Here

I refuse to give my circumstances the final word.

I refuse to allow disappointment to become my identity.

I refuse to let shame dictate my future.

Instead, I choose to agree with God.

I choose hope.

I choose healing.

I choose worship.

I choose truth.

And I will continue to speak life...

Until I see life.

Because God's promises never fail.

And neither does His love.

The Curse Stops Here.

Reflection Questions

  • What words have you been repeatedly speaking over your own life?

  • Are your conversations agreeing with your circumstances or with God's promises?

  • Is there an area where God is inviting you to trust Him instead of trying to control the outcome?

  • What Scripture can you begin declaring over your life every day this week?

Prayer

Father God,

Forgive me for the times I have allowed fear, disappointment, and pain to determine the words I speak. I repent for agreeing with lies instead of agreeing with Your truth.

Teach me to guard my mouth and fill my heart with Your Word so that life—not death—flows from everything I say.

Heal every place inside me that still carries shame, rejection, fear, or regret. Help me trust Your process even when I cannot yet understand Your plan.

Strengthen my faith to worship while I wait, to praise while I heal, and to declare Your promises before I see the outcome.

May every word I speak bring glory to You and become an instrument of hope to those around me.

I choose today to speak life because You have spoken life over me.

In Jesus' mighty name,

Amen.
