The Curse Stops Here – Finding Peace in God's Presence During Uncertain Times

There are moments in history that stop the world in its tracks.

The COVID-19 pandemic was one of those moments.

News reports flooded our televisions. Social media became a constant stream of statistics, opinions, fear, and uncertainty. Every day seemed to bring another reason to worry.

Like many of you, I felt that uncertainty.

Just months before the pandemic was officially recognized, my husband and I had both experienced a severe illness unlike anything we had ever faced before. I rarely became sick, but whatever I had left me exhausted for weeks. Home remedies didn't work. I missed leading worship at church—something that almost never happened. Even after visiting urgent care and receiving treatment, recovery was slow.

When reports about COVID-19 began appearing, I couldn't help but wonder if that was what we had experienced.

Questions filled my mind.

"What if...?"

"What does this mean?"

"What happens next?"

But somewhere in the middle of all those questions, the Holy Spirit gently redirected my attention.

Not to the news.

Not to fear.

Not to speculation.

He redirected me back to His Word.

The Main Thing Must Remain the Main Thing

One lesson God impressed deeply upon my heart during that season is this:

Whatever captures your attention will eventually shape your perspective.

The more we feed on fear, the larger fear becomes.

The more we meditate on God's promises, the greater our confidence grows.

God has never asked His children to ignore reality.

He asks us to face reality through the lens of His truth.

Scripture reminds us that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. His character doesn't change because the circumstances around us do.

He is still our Provider.

He is still our Healer.

He is still our Shepherd.

He is still our Peace.

The challenge isn't whether God is speaking.

The challenge is whether we are positioned to hear Him.

Are We Close Enough to Hear His Voice?

One of the greatest concerns I felt during that season wasn't simply the virus itself.

It was realizing how easily many believers allowed every news report to shape their emotions while spending very little time listening to God's voice.

Our Heavenly Father longs to guide His children.

He desires to comfort us, direct us, and remind us of His promises.

Yet if our hearts become consumed with fear and distraction, His gentle voice becomes harder to recognize.

Jesus said,

"My sheep hear My voice..." (John 10:27)

That relationship isn't built during a crisis.

It's cultivated every day.

Prayer.

Worship.

Scripture.

Obedience.

These are the places where we learn to recognize His voice before the storms arrive.

Sometimes God Uses Stillness to Restore What We've Neglected

As difficult as that season was, I also believe God revealed something beautiful.

For years, many of us lived at an exhausting pace.

Running.

Working.

Serving.

Scheduling.

Performing.

Sometimes we became so busy doing ministry that we neglected the people God first called us to love.

Our families.

Our marriages.

Our children.

Even our relationship with Him.

The unexpected slowing of life became an opportunity to rebuild what constant busyness had quietly eroded.

Scripture reminds us:

"But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith..." (1 Timothy 5:8)

Provision isn't only financial.

Our families also need our presence.

Our attention.

Our prayers.

Our forgiveness.

Our encouragement.

Healthy homes become powerful testimonies of God's love.

The Family of God Must Look Like Family

This season also reminded me that the Church was never meant to be a building.

It's a family.

We may worship in different congregations.

Different cultures.

Different traditions.

But we serve the same Father.

The world has seen enough division.

It needs to see believers loving one another.

Encouraging one another.

Praying for one another.

Serving one another.

Jesus didn't say people would recognize us by our opinions.

He said they would know we belong to Him by our love.

"This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you." (John 15:12)

Love is still our greatest witness.

Not fear.

Not politics.

Not arguments.

Love.

What the World Needs Most

Every generation faces moments that test its faith.

But every generation also has the opportunity to demonstrate God's faithfulness.

The world doesn't simply need more information.

It needs hope.

It needs peace.

It needs believers whose confidence rests in Christ instead of circumstances.

As followers of Jesus, we have the privilege—and the responsibility—to be carriers of His presence wherever we go.

Into our homes.

Into our churches.

Into our neighborhoods.

Into our workplaces.

Into every conversation.

May our words point people toward the Savior instead of deeper into fear.

The Curse Stops Here

Fear does not have the final word.

Division does not have the final word.

Hopelessness does not have the final word.

Jesus does.

Today I choose to trust His voice above every other voice.

I choose faith over fear.

Love over division.

Hope over despair.

Because no matter what is happening around me...

God is still on the throne.

And that changes everything.

• Have fear or constant news consumption distracted you from hearing God?

• What relationships has God been inviting you to restore?

• How can your life reflect the love of Christ more intentionally this week?

Prayer

Father God,

Thank You for being my unchanging refuge in an ever-changing world. Forgive me for the times I have allowed fear, anxiety, or uncertainty to become louder than Your promises.

Teach me to recognize Your voice above every other voice. Draw me closer to You so that I may hear Your guidance with confidence and respond in obedience.

Restore my heart toward my family, my church family, and those You've placed in my life. Remove every root of unforgiveness, pride, fear, and division. Fill me instead with Your compassion, Your patience, and Your unfailing love.

May my life become a reflection of Christ's love in my home, my community, and everywhere You send me.

Help me become a person who brings hope into fearful places and peace into anxious hearts.

I surrender myself completely to You.
